Through PRHBTN, a celebration of art forms that have been criminalized, marginalized, and under-appreciated in the mainstream, John and Jessica Winters have changed the look and feel of downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
PRHBTN started on a whim, with modest intentions: to bring beautiful art that John and Jessica saw out in the world back to their home of Lexington while also further connecting Lexington to the world. Since, they’ve brought renowned international artists Eduardo Kobra, MTO, Pariz One, MrDHEO, ODEITH, ROA, Phlegm and many more to contribute to Lexington’s now vibrant street art scene. At the same time, PRHBTN has done incredible work in lifting up many local and regional artists, all of it to galvanize a community and open minds.
In this talk, Jessica traces the history of street art, from a means of gang communication in New York City, to now, a worldwide art form of, and for the people. John speaks to the background of PRHBTN, the challenges they’ve faced, and how a husband-wife duo operating only with the support of their creative community can challenge the “art establishment” and bring beauty to a city.

Over seven years ago, John and Jessica Winters formed PRHBTN, an annual celebration of art forms that have been criminalized, marginalized, and under-appreciated in the mainstream, featuring public murals alongside an exhibition of street art works in a space that complements the raw, powerful nature of the message and artistry of each piece.
PRHBTN brings together a regional community of seasoned art lovers and those new to the street art genre by showcasing international, national, regional, and local artists, musicians, and businesses intrinsic to urban culture.
