About this FieldTrip

Nature has wisdom to offer you, but most days its easy to zoom from activity to activity without stopping to notice the wonders and delights around you. Take time to pause & pick up your pen, pencil, or paintbrush. Nature journaling is an ideal space to tune into the wisdom of the natural world and within you. Gather to nature journal together and have the opportunity to share doodles, poetry, or sketches of the nature near you.

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

The class will introduce to several approaches & methods to nature journaling. You will also be introduced to how to use your nature journal as a tool for creating connection to where you live and clear thinking. The agenda and approximate times are as follows:

✔️ Intro from the presenter, reading 2 pages from her book Talk to the Trees, and a warm-up activity.

✔️ 2-3 methods of nature journaling and observation will be presented in overview- one more in depth

✔️ Guided nature journaling for 10 minutes.

✔️ Sharing from 2-4 participants & Reflections from the instructor.

✔️ Quiet journaling for 5 minutes to tune into intuition and current noticings, observations.

✔️ Reflection from instructor, reflection on takeaways from participants

🎒WHAT TO KNOW OR BRING

✔️Markers, colored pencils, drawing pencils, pens OR watercolors. There is not expectation for what you write or draw with. I like to work in color, and you can work in color too or black and white.

✔️ Paper or a sketchbook, journal, or notebook.

✔️ If you are able to sit outside or near a window for the class that is good. If you can’t get outside for the class, gather some natural items from your home and have them handy. You can create a still-life style arrangement or simply line them up.

Here are ideas for natural items that you could gather:

✔️a houseplant or fresh flowers,

✔️an acorn (am I the only one who has acorns in her house :D),

✔️Driftwood or A seashell,

✔️A head of cabbage or a lemon,

✔️Crystals or a feather, or Your cat.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
