How does a desert turn onto a creative paradise for a week? Michaela shares her Burning Man experience.
About the speaker
Burning Man is not a festival. It is a community. It is an annual event, a temporary city in the Nevada desert, which consists of artistic performances, installations, costumes, and music. As the official website says, it is “a global cultural movement based on ten practical principles”. These principles include radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-expression, or leaving no trace.
Míša Rýgrová found out about Burning Man by accident when working on an assignment for her DAMU production studies. She fell in love with the principles of the festival and worked her way up from a participant to a part of the organization of Burning Man. She conducted research within the European Community, including the Middle East and Russia, to support the non-profit mission of the event, cooperating with its various teams on the future plans. Currently, she is expanding her work experience as a Casting Associate in Vivid Casting in Prague and pursuing the dream of bringing participatory art into public spaces with We Are From Dust, a non-profit organization.
