Cafe owner Megan Stewart illustrates how her venture into the coffee biz became a life-changing community building experience

As humans, we seek belonging, acceptance, and recognition. It sometimes happens without intention; gradually, organically, then once day you realize you are a part of something greater–a community. Through this dynamic, we can learn, grow, and move into a role that provides inspiration, purpose, and fulfillment in our lives.

About the speaker

Megan O'Rene Stewart is a maker of safer space in Buffalo, NY. Through her cafe on Allen Street, Grindhaus, she remains true to the legacy of coffeehouses across the world–a space away from home, where people can experience the freedom to grow and explore among the company of others with a true sense of safety and belonging. She focuses her work on creating space for those who do not have an easy time accessing conventional space, treating all with respect and care as if they were family. Every aspect of what Grindhaus offers is focused on creating and maintaining this space.
