About the speaker

Maryann is a designer, creative director, and the founder of afrontāl, India’s first Afro-Caribbean dance crew. Based in Chennai and Bangalore, she works across design and dance, creating experiences that bring people together through movement, music, and shared energy.

Founded in 2016, afrontāl has been at the forefront of building Afro-Caribbean dance culture in India through workshops, performances, festivals, and digital content. Maryann’s approach to dance is rooted in joy, self-expression, and community, focusing less on perfection and more on freedom, fun, and connection.

She continues to build afrontāl alongside a close-knit crew of three other women, growing a community driven by a shared love for music and dance.
