Mary equates the uncontrollable conditions of the sea to challenges in real life

In her talk, Mary explains how to identify the conditions of life’s waves and empowers us to grab the proper surfboard to thrive in those conditions.

About the speaker

Mary Glazier is the individual behind GURFERLADY™, an identity created to introduce mental health outlets through surf instruction, artistic expression and creative community events.

Mary's passion for GURFERLADY™ stems from being a self-taught “Gurfer" (girl surfer) after her surf-loving brother passed away during childhood. She has been in love with the rhythms and eternal progression of surfing ever since. Her surfing school is focused on teaching women the stoke, skills and therapeutic ways of surfing in South Florida.

In additon to being a "Gurfer", Mary is a mixed media artist. Extensive exposure to the mass amounts of waste found on our coastline inspires her upcycled artwork, predominantly made up of surrealist pieces created with repurposed single-use resources.

Her playful assemblage of lost textiles and expired vintage books is equally significant to her finished piece. Breathing new life into previously lost materials, Mary experiments with nostalgic and feminist concepts through distorted & scaled scenery.
