About the speaker
Dr. Margaret Rutherford, a clinical psychologist, has practiced for over twenty-five years in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her passion within the last decade has been to bring compassionate and common-sense advice to her audiences through her own website and other media, including Psychology Today, the Gottman Blog and more.
Margaret hosts a popular podcast, The SelfWork Podcast, which is consistently ranked in the top 50 U.S. mental health podcasts. Her book Perfectly Hidden Depression (New Harbinger, 2019) focuses a much-needed light on the dangerous link between destructive perfectionism, depression, and suicidal thought, and earned a spot in Parade Magazine’s “Top Ten Books on Depression” for 2021. More recently, her instructive and fast-paced seminars on perfectly hidden depression have been acclaimed by participants as “one of the best ever,” as she offers a challenge to the mental health profession’s overreliance on its classic symptom checklist during assessment and evaluation of depression.
In May 2023, Margaret was selected by TEDx Boca Raton to share her research and ideas on perfectly hidden depression as she continues to challenge her own profession – and our culture – to risk greater emotional transparency.
