About the speaker
An Alaska Native Tlingit tribal member, Kate Nelson is an award-winning journalist based in Minneapolis who focuses on amplifying important Native American change makers and issues. For the past five years, she has served as Editor-in-Chief of the boutique lifestyle magazine Artful Living, where she will soon shift to become Editor-at-Large. A proven leader and visionary in consumer publishing with 15+ years of experience, she is one of few Native American chief magazine editors across the country and one of the youngest female chief editors in the Twin Cities market. Beyond her work at Artful Living, Kate regularly covers Indigenous topics for national and international media outlets including ELLE, Esquire, the BBC, the Guardian, The Daily Beast, Teen Vogue, W Magazine, Andscape, and others. She has interviewed such luminaries as cultural icon Padma Lakshmi, Reservation Dogs showrunner Sterlin Harjo, and chef Sean Sherman. A lifelong storyteller, Kate is also an avid equestrian and a pop culture aficionado.
