About the speaker
After Kalsom's retirement in December 1997, she became a writer and publisher, starting with three books about family members. She then co-authored two Gourmand award-winning cookbooks with her cousin Hamidah Abdul Hamid—Johor Palate: Tanjung Puteri Recipes (2015) and Malaysia’s Culinary Heritage: The Best of Authentic Traditional Recipes (2020)—both of which have been translated into Malay. In 2022 she co-authored another Gourmand award-winning cookbook, Recipes Are For Sharing, with Ungku Balkis Ungku Abdul Hamid and Ungku Marhamah Shereen Ungku Abdul Hamid, which has also been translated into Malay.
Kalsom has been a columnist for The Star, one of Malaysia’s foremost English dailies, since 2023.
