About the speaker

Jonny Alexander is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Southern California. His practice includes painting, murals, design, installation and printmaking. His work is interested in the perceived duality between humans and the natural environment. Creating narrative based works he uses everyday objects to convey varying themes centered around environmental, societal and existential thought. In addition to the aforementioned studio work Jonny has an extensive design based practice which takes a more ornamental approach. A whole suite of his work deals with what he plainly describes as, “plants, shapes and colors”. This commercial side of his practice can be seen through public and private murals, and designs applied to a variety of brand collaborations.

Jonny Alexander has painted murals in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, San Diego, Miami, Denver, Mexico, and New Zealand. He has worked with such clients as Patagonia, Juneshine, Outside Lands, Subaru, Pow Wow Worldwide, Juxtapoz Magazine, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Bumble, Boost Mobile among many others. He has shown works in galleries such as Thinkspace Art in Los Angeles, Cass Contemporary in Tampa, Inner State Gallery in Detroit, 111 Minna in San Francisco and more. He holds a BFA in Printmaking with works in the permanent collection of the Janet Turner Print Museum and from 2015-2017 he was the Master Printer and Co-Director of the Artists in Residence Program for the publishing company 1XRUN in Detroit, MI.
