About the speaker
Jiyoon Lee is an immigrant poet, translator, and yoga teacher who turned into a punk rocker, as she felt the current times called for it. She currently engages with Punk Rock as a medium that reveals a deeper layer of her Soul to herself and to the World. Prior to her punk rock journey, she engaged with performance art, literature, and translation. She has published three books of poems, and her most recent full-length publication is a translation of the Korean writer Kim Yideumâs novel âBlood Sistersâ, which wrestles with the the role of art in the struggle survive under dictatorship (Deep Vellum, 2019). The sudden loss of Jiyoon's brother and the growing injustice in the world hurting so many People put fire to her Punk spirit, and as a singer she screams with heartbreak and Love for All. Her songwriting is a practice of Witness that combines the satirical tone of a Jester with the prophetic vision of Cassandra. She is currently Director of the âDallas Meditation Centerâ where she serves her community through the practice of Mindfulness and Creativity.
And she is, of course, honored to be the front person of âBoltcutter Revolutionâ, her punk band. The band is excited to meet everyone on June 20th.

Boltcutter Revolution is a DFW based Power Trio Punk band. In 2021 Jiyoon, Matt, and Clara met at the School of Rock program that connects aspiring musicians. In 2023 they decided to start their own band, which became Boltcutter Revolution. They have been on an adventure together learning how to create and perform ever since.
Mike Farmer of The Prof Fuzz 63 describes "[Boltcutter Revolution's] music seamlessly blends classic punk sounds with avant garde art rock, laying the foundation for Jiyoonâs socially-aware lyrics, delivered passionately punctuated by yelps and screams. Imagine Yoko Ono fronting the Dead Kennedys,â and Christopher Brockmann of Death Before Breakfast adds, "they mix their unique blend of alternative and punk rock with the social awareness issues of the times.... [They are] so much fun to watch!" Boltcutter Revolution's punk ethos is that of friendship and empowerment: In collective solidarity, everybody can break their own chains and join the revolution!
