About the speaker
Jennifer Ryan is the founder of THE BLUEROOT COMPANY, a wellness brand and healthy, fast-casual eatery in Birmingham serving pure, local, and simple foods to those who don’t want to sacrifice nutrition or taste for convenience. She was born and raised in southern California, studied and played Division I sports at Princeton University, then spent over a decade working on Wall Street. Her husband’s job brought them to Birmingham a few years ago for what was meant to be a short stint, but they were captured by the charm of the town, its opportunity, and the community, and decided to put down roots. However, they lamented the lack of healthy and quick options, and, after much research and soul-searching, Jennifer ultimately chose to fill the gap. Harnessing the lessons she learned about eating pure, whole foods as nourishing fuel, and inspired by the local culinary talent and Alabama farming community, she created BLUEROOT to bring a bright, local, and healthy option to the Birmingham community, especially for those on the move. When Jen and her husband Mike aren’t working, dreaming up new recipes, or visiting family in California or Colorado, you can find her teaching spin at MPower in Mountain Brook, out for a run with their two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, reading spy novels or self-help books, or indulging with Mike at one of their favorite restaurants around town.
