Irene Wakefield, founder of Prepair NZ shares her story of leaving her 9 to 5 to pursue her passion for a much need cause.
About the speaker
Courage has no specific form and knows no bounds. From starting a side project to the act of listening when you would rather interject, every day we are wrapped in opportunities to exercise courage.
Courage has nothing to do with your title or level of expertise. It’s not for the few or the gifted. It’s an act of humanity, of choosing to take an action that is risky because it demands vulnerability and curiosity.
Our speaker this month is Irene Wakefield, CEO & Founder of Prepair NZ.
After 8 years in the corporate world, Irene finally stopped to question what she would do when she got to the top? Quickly realising that a life of selling home loans and life insurance wasn’t for her - she quit and launched a charity instead.
Prepair NZ is on a mission to ensure that young women are educated about healthy relationships emotional abuse and self-love. After realising that a former relationship was abusive Irene started with an Instagram and blog to share her experiences.
In two short years the organisation has grown. Irene has shared her powerful story at TEDX, partnered with Glassons to deliver a national campaign, worked with the It’s Not OK campaign and connected with 100,00s of kiwis through talks, workshops and online resources across the country.
Today, Irene has a team of 10 volunteers at Prepair NZ, a business to run with her partner and the excitement of parenthood on the horizon.
The constant throughout this journey have been many moments of courage.
