About this Club
The goal of this club is to bring together a crew of talented community builders committed to imagining a better world we might live in—and to creating that world through action.
We meet every week to have lunch and dream up fun social good actions, in particular on Idealist Days.
Ami Dar, the founder of idealist.org, defined “Idealist Days” as the 12 days of the year that are the same worldwide like 5/5, 9/9, and 11/11. Days where we’ll choose to give each other social permission to dream and do and invite and share and propose, so the world might be a better place through our actions.
The question we’ll seek to explore is…
What might happen, in our community and around the world, if once a month—on the same day—we encourage each other to do one thing for someone or something we care about?
We meet every Friday at Idealist HQ
Every Friday we host the Idealist of NYC Club for members in NYC. Visitors from out of town are very welcome!
Schedule
12-1pm Bring-Your-Lunch and enjoy the community. 1-2pm We’ll do something intentional as a group.
✨WHAT TO EXPECT
✔️ Great people to have lunch with! From 12-1pm bring something to eat so we can enjoy a meal together.✔️ After lunch we’ll have a working session of some kind. We’ll do a collective action, have a discussion, do a craft project, or get ready for an upcoming action. This is a working group, so expect some action! Last week we organized a community walk!
✔️ This isn’t something that you need to commit to doing every week, but the goal is to gather a group that is interested in showing up regularly so we aren’t starting from scratch every week.
🍿 BYO LUNCH
There are plenty of places to get lunch around Idealist HQ. Plan to bring/get your lunch and be at the office by 12:30pm at the latest so we can be finished eating by 1pm and move to the action item.ABOUT YOUR HOST
My name is Matthew Chavez! Nice to meet you ✌️ I’m an artist, author, cofounder at Listening Lab, and producer at Idealist .
I wear many hats professionally. All of them in service of community building, bridging, and collective action. In the last 8 years I created all sorts of things in that arena: projects, workshops, community programs, events, public activations, productions, exhibitions, talks, showcases, and live streams to name a handful.
Now, I’m excited to endeavor alongside like minded peers to make the world a better place. Hosting this club is an opportunity develop amazing work with an incredible team, and to support others interested in this critical work. Let’s do great things!
