About this Club
The goal of this club is to bring together a crew of talented community builders committed to doing on Idealist Days.
Ami Dar, the founder of idealist.org, defined “Idealist Days” as the 12 days of the year that are the same worldwide like 5/5, 9/9, and 11/11. Days where we’ll choose to give each other social permission to dream and do and invite and share and propose, so the world might be a better place through our actions.
The question we’ll seek to explore is…
What might happen, in our community and around the world, if once a month—on the same day—we encouraged each other to do one thing for someone or something we care about?
There will generally be two types of meetings…Planning days and Doing days.
On Planning days, we’ll come together to brainstorm and plan how we might do great things together, or individually.
On Doing days, we’ll go out into the world and make it better through the actions we dreamed up.
✨WHAT TO EXPECT
✔️ Our agendas will be sent out before meetings based on our objectives for that meeting. Some days we’ll be planning community actions, and other days we’ll be doing the actions we planned out.✔️For planning days, we’ll get together at Idealist HQ in Midtown Manhattan and brainstorm what actions would be fun and in service of making the world a better place.
✔️For this first session, we’ll be getting together to get to know each other and see what we might want to do on the upcoming Idealist Day on 11/11.
🍿 BYO SNACKS
We keep Clubs as free as possible to make sure anyone can attend. YAY! And… as a result, club hosts are carrying a lot of the financial weight of something like SNACKS. We know that snacks make any gathering so much fun… so we’re trying something new.👋 If you’re a snack fan, and you’d like to contribute, feel free to bring a snack to share with your fellow Club goers. Nothing fancy. Just something that delights you. That’s it. See you there!
ABOUT YOUR HOST
My name is Matthew Chavez! Nice to meet you ✌️ I’m an artist, author, cofounder at Listening Lab, and producer at Idealist .
I wear many hats professionally. All of them in service of community building, bridging, and collective action. In the last 8 years I created all sorts of things in that arena: projects, workshops, community programs, events, public activations, productions, exhibitions, talks, showcases, and live streams to name a handful.
Now, I’m excited to endeavor alongside like minded peers to make the world a better place. Hosting this club is an opportunity develop amazing work with an incredible team, and to support others interested in this critical work. Let’s do great things!
