Join us for this 60-minute session with Vacation with An Artist and Oakland based, Spanish artist Xavier Gallego @eyesores.
We’ll learn how to draw imaginary creatures that make people happy and monstrously fun using just a sharpie! Together, we’ll use this creative process to explore different ways of thinking, tap into new or dormant creative reservoirs, and have a great time. Regardless of your professional background or drawing experience, you’ll leave with a few new illustrated, mythical friends.
Materials: Sharpie, Blank Papers. Colors are optional.
Vacation With An Artist VAWAA is a global platform that enables anyone to book an in-person mini-apprenticeship with remarkable artists and makers around the world – from learning how to make your own kayaks in upstate New York to natural textile dyeing in Mexico.
Xavier Gallego @eyesores is an Oakland based, Spanish artist. He has been dreaming up cuddly monsters as a way to develop his creativity and throw messages of love and optimism into the world for as long as he can remember. These monsters are not horrible and menacing, on the contrary they are cuddly and lovely. Monsters who throw messages of love, optimism and even are able to make your day happy with their sweet ugliness. They are soft and have beautiful colors as pink, green apple or clear blue. Through this very personal iconography, we can see how cheerful and carefree his personality is and how his way of looking at life is always positive. He spreads romantic love messages and rules for happiness masterfully, using humor and a fun graphic line. His art has been shown in solo art exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York and Istanbul and brands like Airbnb, Spotify and Mahou, have commissioned him to paint murals, illustrate campaigns or even create the identity of a new beer.
This is a more traditional format where participants absorb information through presentations and talks.
This FieldTrip will not be recorded.

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.
Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.
Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!
Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.
We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things. Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.
It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
