About the speaker
Hanna Hrabarska (1986) is an Ukrainian photographer, visual artist, and photo journalist.
Before the war in Ukraine, Hanna ran a small portrait studio in the center of Kyiv. Over the last decade, she has established herself as a freelance photographer, photo journalist and documentary artist — with both commissioned and autonomous work. For some time she photographed music bands and techno DJs touring around the world. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from the National University of Kiev-Mohyla Academy, Kyiv (2010).
Hanna’s work has been published in numerous media outlets, such as Die ZEIT, VOGUE, FORBES, and NRC, and her photos exhibited in galleries across France, Germany, Norway and USA. Her photography was part of a group show at this year’s Venice Biennale (“This is Ukraine; Defending Freedom”).
Hanna's most recent and on-going project “My mom wants to go back home” — about the experience of fleeing from Ukraine — has already been shown in more than 10 European countries and will be published by Jap Sam Books as a book, designed by MainStudio, in the beginning of 2024.
She has been teaching photography courses at the online art & photography school SKVOT, an Ukrainian creative hub based in Kyiv.
