In my art, you’ll find threads of connection from my diverse life experience gained from traveling, working, and living in Brazil, France, South Korea, and my native United States. This international lens, combined with work experience that includes corporate recruiter, makeup artist, travel consultant, Lyft driver, ghostwriter, digital marketing manager, and English as a Foreign Language teacher, has given me a global perspective, and shown me that we are more alike than we are different. Writing professionally in various contexts for the last 15 years, I also writes creatively as a sijo poet, novelist, and screenwriter.
About this FieldTrip
My sijo poetry workshop will introduce you to this Korean poetry structure that I specialize in, while offering a hands-on opportunity to write your own three line poem, concluding with a short read-aloud for those participants who want to share their poems.
This workshop not only introduces seasoned poets to Korean literature, but offers new poets and writers a chance to begin their craft with a shorter structure that is less intimidating than other poetic structures.
My aspiration for you once you complete this workshop is for you to have drafted your first sijo poem, and feel more empowered as a poet.
✨WHAT TO EXPECT
✔️ Learn some background: a quick history lesson on sijo poetry to give you some inspiration to write your own.✔️ Get a refresh on syllable count: an important component of this Korean lyrical poetic form.
✔️ Poetry writing: put your poet hat on and write your first 3-line sijo. Who knows, maybe this will be a first draft to submit to a literary magazine!
✔️ Sijo sharing: we’ll finish with an open mic for anyone who wants to read their poem aloud. Don’t be shy!
✔️ Bring an open mind, your favorite writing pen or pencil, and paper and begin your journey to becoming a poet.

Sarah Taylor uses her art to teach, shock, and inspire, and draws on the diversity of her international life experiences in her work. Writing professionally in various contexts for 15 years, she received her certification to teach sijo poetry from the Sejong Cultural Society in 2020 and has been published in Eastern Structures, The Acentos Review, Mindful Poetry Moments, and The Poet magazine.
With international experience that includes corporate recruiter, makeup artist, travel consultant, Lyft driver, ghostwriter, social media manager, and English as a Foreign Language teacher, her global perspective has shown her that we are more alike than we are different.
