12‑04‑1940 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಸನ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕೊಣನೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿರುವ ಗಮಕ ವಿದುಷಿ ಗಂಗಮ್ಮ ಕೇಶವಮೂರ್ತಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಮಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾವ್ಯವಾಚನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಸ್ತಂಭಳು. ತಾಯಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದ ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನೂ ತಂದೆಯಿಂದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯ ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಗಮಕದ ಪಾಠವನ್ನೂ ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದಲೇ ಕಲಿತು, ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಸತ್ಯವತಿ ಕೇಶವಮೂರ್ತಿ, ಶ್ರೀ ಬಿ.ಎಸ್‌.ಎಸ್‌. ಕೌಶಿಕ್‌, ಶ್ರೀ ನಂ. ಅಶ್ವತ್ಥನಾರಾಯಣ, ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಘವೇಂದ್ರರಾಯರು, ಶ್ರೀ ಪೇಟೆ ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರಾಚಾರ್ಯರು, ಶ್ರೀ ನಾಗರಾಜ ಭಾಗವತರು, ಶ್ರೀ ದಿಬ್ಬೂರು ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸರಾವ್‌, ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಧಾಕೃಷ್ಣ ಮುಂತಾದ ಅನೇಕ ಗುರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಠ ಮಾಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. “ಗಂಗಮ್ಮ ಘರಾನಾ” ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯಬಹುದಾದ, ನವರಸಭರಿತ ಕಾವ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಅನುವಾಗುವ ರಸಪೂರ್ಣವಾದ ವಾಚನ ಶೈಲಿಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿ, 12ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಕಾವ್ಯವಾಚನ ಮತ್ತು ಗಮಕ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

1977–87ರಲ್ಲಿ 14 ಸಾವಿರ ಮತ್ತು 1989–2026ರಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 15 ಸಾವಿರ ಗಮಕ ವಾಚನ ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಂಗೀತ ನೃತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ (2014‑17), ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಗಮಕ ಕಲಾ ಪರಿಷತ್ತು (2017‑20, 2020‑23) ಮತ್ತು ಗಮಕ ಕಲಾ ಪರಿಷತ್ತಿನ 9ನೇ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ದೂರದರ್ಶನ‑ಆಕಾಶವಾಣಿ ಕಲಾವಿದರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು 60 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ “ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಶ ಗಮಕ ಪಾಠಶಾಲೆ”ಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಗಮಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕಲಾಶ್ರೀ, ಕುಮಾರವ್ಯಾಸ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಗಮಕ ರತ್ನಾಕರೆ, ಕಾವ್ಯಗಾಯನ ಕಲಾಧರೆ ಸಹಿತ ಅನೇಕ ಬಿರುದು‑ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದು ಗೌರವಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Gamaka Vidushi Gangamma Keshavamurthy, born on 12‑04‑1940 in Konanooru, Hassan district, is a highly respected exponent of Kannada gamaka and kavyavachana. Trained from childhood in traditional songs by her mother and in classical music and gamaka by her father, she later studied under eminent gurus such as Smt. Satyavati Keshavamurthy, Sri B.S.S. Kaushik, Sri Na. Ashwathanarayana, Sri Raghavendrarayar, Sri Pete Ramachandracahrya, Sri Nagaraj Bhagavatar, Sri Dibbooru Srinivasa Rao and Sri Radhakrishna. She has developed a distinctive “Gangamma gharana”‑style, rasa‑filled recitation suitable for navarasa‑heavy poetry and has been performing kavyavachana since the age of twelve.

From 1977–87 she presented about 14,000 programs and from 1989–2026 around 15,000 gamaka vachana and vyakhya‑karana programs. She has served as president of Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy (2014‑17), Karnataka Gamaka Kala Parishat (2017‑20 and 2020‑23), and the 9th Gamaka Kala Parishat Conference (2013), is a Doordarshan‑Akashavani artist, and has run Lakshmisha Gamaka Pathashala in Bengaluru for about sixty years, teaching thousands of students. She has received numerous titles and awards, including Karnataka Kalashri, Kumaravyasa Award, Gamaka Ratnakara, Kavyagayana Kaladhara, and several others.
