About the speaker
Originally from Houston, TX, Steven Martinez (He/Him) has called Grand Rapids home for over a decade. In 2020 he started Basalt as a way to merge his two great loves: food and community.
About Basalt: Building Community Through Food
Taquero, and native Texan, Steven Martinez founded Basalt with a desire to bring breakfast tacos and Tex-Mex culture to the state he fell in love with over a decade ago.
Basalt brings an elevated yet approachable brunch experience to West Michigan, combining the depth of flavor found in Tex-Mex cuisine with a focus on locally sourced ingredients, craft food, and unbeatable hospitality that Michiganders are known for.

Madcap coffee began with a friendship and a common desire: making amazing coffee and sharing it with others. Today, Madcap runs cafes in Grand Rapids and Detroit, while roasting in Grand Rapids and distributing across the United States. Wherever you experience Madcap, we hope you’ll see, sense, and taste the experience we work so hard to create.

MARCH’S THEME IS FOLKLORE📣
The universe is vast and full of mysteries. Humankind spin stories to answer these mysteries without answers. As these stories are passed down and among a people, they become folklore. Who placed the stars up there? When a pot breaks, who might have been the unseen culprit? How do we celebrate the successes we can’t take credit for? Folklore exercises our mythic imagination, our way of seeing beyond the tangible to make sense of the enigmatic and the unfathomable.
Our Guatemala City chapter chose this month’s exploration of Folklore and Sara Ortega illustrated the theme.
