About the speaker
Ervin is the co-founder of Singapore-based animation studio, Robot Playground Media, where he is CEO and also produces, writes for and directs various animation projects. He heads development of original productions including animated series, short format and feature projects with a particular focus on regional stories that can travel internationally. Ervin hopes to help elevate Southeast Asia animation as a well of talent, craft, and stories for a global audience.
Over the 18+ years he's been in animation, Ervin has worked with Disney, Warner Bros Discovery, Nickelodeon and MTV and is a multiple Asian Academy Creative Award national winner (2022, 2021, 2018), Asian Television Award winner (2017), ContentAsia Award winner (2023) and New York Festivals finalist (2023, 2018). He has directed over a dozen short films and created the 3-season-running local adult animated comedy, 'Downstairs', currently on Netflix and Mediacorp.
Ervin is currently directing his first feature animation, 'The Violinist', a sweeping historical drama set against 80 years of Singapore's past that he co-wrote. The film is slated for a late 2025 completion.
