About the speaker
Erin Shapiro is the Director and CEO of Plains Art Museum. She oversees a robust exhibition calendar that highlights renowned contemporary and Indigenous artists, a high-volume hands-on art making center, and a staff of 100. Erin has held leadership positions at museums across the country; she was most recently the Executive Director at Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives in Honolulu, Hawai’i, and previously served as the Director of Community Engagement at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, VA, the Manager of Interpretive Resources at the Honolulu Museum of Art, and the Curator of the Springfield Museum of Art in Springfield, OH. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Studio Art and Art Theory from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a BA in Art and English from Hamilton College. She worked as a professional artist for several years, with long-term residencies at the Contemporary Artists Center in Troy, NY and the Stone Carving and Sculpture Studio in West Rutland, VT. Erin has been in Fargo for seven months and has enjoyed getting to know everyone in the community!
