About the speaker

Meet Duncan Johnson

Duncan Johnson is an award winning Houston based Cinematographer, Gaffer, and Film Photographer. Honestly, one of the most talented people you'll ever get to watch work. Known for being deeply knowledgeable and an absolute joy to collaborate with, Duncan brings both technical mastery and a genuine creative vision to every project he takes on.

As a cinematographer, his work spans celebrated shorts like Maybe I'm Fine (2019) to feature films alongside some of Hollywood's most recognizable faces — projects like The Neglected starring Josh Duhamel and Dylan Sprouse, Murder at Hollow Creek with Mickey Rourke and Jason Patric, Karma: Death at Latigo Springs featuring Tony Todd, Natasha Henstridge, and Matt Rife, and most recently The Twelve Dates of Christmas, a holiday rom-com reuniting Pretty Little Liars stars Lucy Hale and Ian Harding. As a gaffer, he's lit commercial productions for brands like Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Meta, Google, WhatsApp, GMC, Ford, and Kia, as well as locally known names like Lakewood Church, Landry's Restaurants, the Houston Astros, and the Houston Rockets.

But here's what makes this one special: Duncan is Houston through and through. This month's theme is Local, and we couldn't think of a better person to dig into what that word really means. We're excited to hear his take on shooting in this city, finding a creative home here, and what it means to build something meaningful in the place you're from.
