The skills young musicians learn go far beyond the stage.

Our creative community was excited to welcome Dr. Germán Gutiérrez—Director of Orchestras and Professor of Orchestral Studies at TCU— for an inspirational talk on music and mentorship. Since 1996, he’s served as Director of Orchestras and Professor of Orchestral Studies at TCU. He spoke about the power of music as a language — a golden key that connects people across cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. He reminded us that music not only creates performers, but transforms people. Students often walk into their first rehearsal unsure of themselves and leave with confidence, discipline, and a deeper belief in who they can become. The skills they gain go far beyond the stage, shaping how they show up in every part of their lives. One of our biggest takeaways: there is immense value in investing in youth and guiding young people along their path to finding themselves. The Texas Christian University orchestra program is creating a powerful global exchange — attracting top talent, enhancing diversity, and transforming perspectives through collaboration and community. They were recently named one of the top college orchestras in the U.S. The video ends with a beautiful performance by Dr. Gutiérrez and his wife Silvia. Enjoy!
