Caitlin Harper

Founder at Commcoterie.

New York, NY, USA

Hi! I’m Caitlin Harper. For more than 15 years, I have designed strategies and led change in businesses across the globe; grown phenomenal teams; and served organizations large and small as a strategist and organizational change, internal communication, and operations leader.

Now, as the founder and principal strategist of Commcoterie, I help leaders and decision-makers at values-driven organizations design strategies, navigate change, and develop stakeholder communication so that they can achieve their organizations’ missions and visions.

I earned my BA in English from the University of Florida with minors in Psychology, Linguistics, and Entrepreneurship and my MFA in Creative Writing from The New School in New York City and I am the author of the young adult novel It Will Set You Free.

I write a monthly newsletter to 1k+ leaders and change-makers about how to lead change well. Want a sneak peek? Check out the archive – and subscribe if you like!

About this FieldTrip

If you’ve ever been in a situation where a coworker, friend, or family member has come to you for help with a problem, heard your brilliant advice, and then ignored it completely, it might be time to try a coaching mindset. Whether you’re a manager, mentor, or the “"parent”“ of your friend group, using coaching tools for these conversations can help—and anyone can gain these skills by practicing peer coaching.

In this workshop, you’ll learn communication techniques to make your coaching conversations effective and the easy framework we use in Commcoterie’s peer coaching community to guide our coaching conversations. Through asking the right questions, practicing active listening, getting comfortable with silence, and empowering others to take action rather than directing them, anyone can use coaching tools and positive communication techniques to help your peers get unstuck and reach their goals.

About your host

I’m a writer, speaker, coach, and the founder of Commcoterie, a communication consultancy that helps individuals and organizations make their communication more effective, inclusive, and engaging. Our free peer coaching community connects people all over the world to network and practice their coaching skills to improve their everyday communication.

For over a decade, I have led communication, operations, leadership and learning, and people strategy in global media companies, small businesses, non-profits, and government agencies.

I’m an expert in communication, storytelling, managing change, facilitating, scaling cultures, solving problems, and building communities. My mission is to help people communicate and collaborate effectively so they can strengthen their communities and reach their goals.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And
” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
