Come on a journey with the creator of Jokey Jokes to find out how he went from corporate design work to projects that bring him (and others!) joy.

Warning: Following David’s advice may lead to discomfort and embarrassment. BUT he promises there’s something good on the other side! (He’s also our only speaker to date who has been his own musical guest before his talk.) After his “cool designer” career path hit a roadblock at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, David made some illustrations … just because. It wasn’t overnight, but he followed that feeling into other projects. Now he’s telling dad jokes to rooms of strangers, leaning into the discomfort of trying new things, and making work he loves. So … how did the rabbit feel when the mouse stole his food? You’ll have to watch to find out.

About the speaker

David DaCosta is a Dad, Author, Illustrator, and Multi-Disciplinary Designer with over 20 years experience in branding and marketing. He counts his New York upbringing, classic cartoons, and his family as a few of his many inspirations. When he’s not annoying his family with new jokes, he spends his time DJing around Portland and enjoying a laid back life in the Pacific Northwest.

The Jokey Jokes Book series is inspired by working on jokes with his 6-year-old daughter and David’s love of quirky character design. By merging jokes and illustration together, David has found a project that is a truly full-filling creative outlet.
