Culture of Solidarity & Addam Yekutieli / Know Hope

part of a series on Ripple

About the speaker

Addam Yekutieli aka Know Hope lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Over the past 15 years, Addam Yekutieli (pseudonym Know Hope) has developed a visual iconography and language used to mirror real-life situations and observations, and document the notion of a collective human condition.

With his practice deep rooted in working within the public realm, in recent years Yekutieli has began a process of ongoing projects with participants worldwide, with the aim of highlighting the nexus between the personal and the collective, the political and the personal.

Yekutieli’s artworks take place both indoors and outdoors, in the form of site-specificinstallations, murals and assemblages, combining ready-made materials, mixed media
pieces, photographs and text to create exhibitions and large-scale projects in public space. All these attempt to express a re-imagination of our shared reality, with an emphasis on our mutual human traits.

The participatory nature of these processes generates a conversation across a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds. It offers an aesthetics of ambiguity, asking the viewers to search for intricacies and complexity. It therefore reaffirms the necessity to encourage understanding of our existence in a real rather than a merely symbolic
way.

Yekutieli has worked and exhibited internationally, most recently with projects and exhibitions held in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Besançon, and NY.

Danielle Cantor is a food anthropologist and co-initiator of Culture of Solidarity.
Up until the COVID-19 era began, her profession had everything to do with food. From writing and documenting it, collecting and donating it, to cooking and serving it.
In 2016 Danielle began the ongoing project 'Culture of Consumption', which explores the connections between communities and their food practices. It’s goal is to bridge between different cultures through a familiar medium to all, food.

More on Culture of Solidarity

In March 2020 Alma Beck, Danielle Cantor and Leah Tonic spontaneously turned to restaurants, cafes and offices that were about to close their doors following the first closure/seger requesting their raw materials left in the refrigerators to distribute food to those in need. From the 30 crates of food collected on the first day to over 400 crates on the third day, has grown in the last year to a huge team of volunteers country-wide who have distributed over 46,000 food baskets and 30,000 hot meals and our activity has reached 54 localities.

Additionally, they have a hotline, where volunteers adopt individuals at risk who need someone to talk to; An array of volunteers cook hot meals for those unable to do so themselves; provide basic renovation services for the elderly, electrical appliances, housewares, toys and clothing for those who need them, and more.
