How the smallest rooms— within us, around us, and between us—shape the biggest versions of who we become.

In this talk, community builder and creative leader Corey Favor explores how growth begins in the “little rooms” of our lives: the private inner spaces where clarity forms, the imperfect physical rooms where ideas take shape, and the collective rooms where collaboration expands what’s possible. Inspired by OutKast’s origin story and his own creative journey, Corey shows how protecting these rooms, inviting the right people into them, and carrying their spirit into bigger stages fuels authentic evolution. Little rooms, he reminds us, create big impact.

About the speaker

My artistic journey began in New York City, where I was raised by a family that deeply valued hard work, community. From early internships at the Apollo Theater to pivotal experiences like Space Camp, I learned how transformative curiosity and creativity can be. That spirit carried me to the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD), where I developed both as an artist, entrepreneur and an arts advocate. Immersing myself in Columbus’s creative scene, from Bronzeville’s cultural legacy to programs at the The Columbus Museum of Art and the Wexner Center for the Arts, I became deeply committed to using the arts as a vehicle for connection, and community.

In my current role as Senior Director of Community Engagement at Orange Barrel Media and IKE Smart City, I lead art-integrated initiatives and partnerships across 30 markets. By partnering with municipalities, nonprofits, and local artists, we embed creativity into public spaces, fostering a sense of community and belonging. These efforts, which include launching accessible community-driven campaigns, cultivating multi-sector partnerships, and managing philanthropic initiatives, have demonstrated how bold, inclusive ideas can drive both cultural relevance and economic impact. Throughout my career, I have prioritized fostering an organizational culture built on collaboration, equity, and innovation.

My passion for supporting underrepresented creatives led me to co-found Creative Control Fest, an award-winning platform that uplifts diverse voices in design, technology, and media. Beyond programming, this work reflects my broader commitment to building ecosystems where artists can thrive. That same commitment is evident in my board service with the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD), Creative Ohio, the Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation, the Gateway Film Center, and the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. I also serve as a member of the Black Trustee Alliance, working nationally to support equity in arts leadership.

My unique career journey, shaped by lived experiences informs my approach to the arts, leadership and my perception of the world.
