Community muralist Alex Chiu recounts how he found a mentor and collaborator who changed his creative process and his life.

Whether or not they know the artist behind it, everyone in Portland has probably seen a mural by Alex Chiu. In his talk, Alex recounts his path from LA to Portland, and from lighthearted comics to community-focused murals. And key to that journey (in addition to Alex’s own persistence) was the holistic support of a mentor. As he walks through the beautiful murals he’s created with his mentor Jeremy Nichols, Alex breaks down the basics he’s learned from having a mentor: keep things simple, there are some things you don’t need to worry about, and to take care of yourself.
