Clay Mohr Lighting: Treasure

Kestrel Coffee

part of a series on Treasure

About the speaker

Meet Clay Mohrman, a Burlington-based lighting designer, sculpture artist & driftwood collector. Discover the captivating world of lighting design as it intertwines with the enchanting allure of driftwood. Like buried treasure washed ashore, each weathered piece of driftwood carries a unique story, whispering tales of distant lands and untold adventures. Clay hunts down these hidden gems and transforms them into mesmerizing lighting fixtures, radiating a warm glow that illuminates both space and imagination. Like uncovering buried treasure, encountering a piece by Clay ignites a sense of awe and discovery.

Founded in 2017 by Clay Mohrman, Clay Mohr Lighting is a sculptural lighting design firm that specializes in combining wood and LED technology.

Connecting interior spaces with nature has always been an important theme in Clay's work, collaborating with people to enhance the ambient lighting in their home and the places they inhabit. He believes that lighting is not only important but essential to enjoy our interior spaces and interact with our environment. Interior spaces act as a refuge from nature and its elements, yet many design elements and products, such as lighting, emulate natural phenomenons. Through his work with lighting and wood, Clay aims to form a bridge between nature and our interiors. Using form, function and materials, the illuminated sculptures exist at the intersection of nature, emotion and the built environment. The materials representing nature and the modern forms paying homage to design. The collection of work provides functionally satisfying pieces of sculptures in unison with nature.
