About the speaker

Cindy Mkaza-Siboto was born in East London and raised in Khayelistha. She has a BA in Theatre and Performance (2006) and a B.S.Sc(Hons) (2013) in African Studies from UCT. Cindy has 12 years of experience of working in the non-profit sector. In 2014, she and her husband founded Emagqabini Education Academy NPC.

Cindy was motivated by her sister’s struggle with school to start the organization. The organisation seeks to strengthen support to young people from the townships through providing academic, mentorship and future planning support.

In 2017, Cindy Mkaza-Siboto was named one of 100 Brightest Young Minds in Africa and in the same year she was also selected as a Spark* International change-maker for her work with Emagqabini Education Academy.
