About the speaker
Cath Leach (a.k.a Catfish) is an illustrator, designer and graphic recorder who has managed to channel her love of diving, the oceans and the natural world as a driving force for her design business, Catfish Creative.
As Sea-E-O of Catfish Creative since 2008, Cath works out of the fish tank, her creative space on the south coast of NSW. Over time she has become a go-to design strategist for all things oceans. She finds great joy collaborating with scientists and change-making organisations around Australia to drive capacity and awareness of their projects, which can be anything from seaweed reforestation to collecting whale snot with drones.
Catfish believes that now, more than ever, we need creativity to solve the complex challenges of our expanding world, and views design as a powerful conduit for positive change. As designers, we have a responsibility for the work we choose. The messages and experiences we create pass through the hands, minds, and hearts of people across society. Her work is living proof that designers have a golden opportunity to influence a shift to a more abundant and resourceful way of living.
The oceans are so much more than a big blue playground for diving, surfing and adventure, they feed us, regulate our climate, and generate most of the oxygen we breathe. Catfish believes it's the least we can do, in the spirit of natural reciprocity, to collectively give back.
Alone we are a drop… together an ocean.
