About the speaker

Billy is a Creative Director and Photographer.

London born & based in Sydney, Billy Plummer grew up in an eccentric family; his grandfather was the UK's first ever newspaper horse racing tipster, his Aunt the first non-French principal dancer at the Folies Bergère in Paris and his Uncle, a Dallas newspaper editor was two cars behind Kennedy in the Dallas motorcade.

As an award-winning art-based Creative Director, Billy has led creative departments in the UK, Australia and China. Now he’s a photographer/director represented by SamIam Management in Sydney shooting campaigns for clients in Australia and across Asia Pacific. Uniquely he’s won international awards for both his creative work and for his photography. Being an ex-creative director turned photographer/director makes him something of a unicorn, in which capacity he’s featured as keynote speaker at Creative Asia Plus in Singapore and at the New Zealand Institute for Professional Photographers.

A passionate advocate for and believer in the value of personal creative work, Billy co-founded The Series Project, a workshop teaching “what and why for photographers who already know how”. Since its inception in 2018, projects by Series Project attendees have won over 70 international photography awards.

Billy’s work has a deliberately distinctive feel and he’s shot everything from hill tribes and the homeless to Jean Claude Van Damme and Richard Branson.

He believes there’s real magic to be found in the everyday and loves the challenge of revealing the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Billy has won Photography Gold at the Midas Awards for World’s Best Financial & Marketing and at AWARD for Best Photography in a Campaign. His personal work has been exhibited in Australia and Europe, including Honey & Dust at Northern Europe’s largest photographic festival, Nordic Light International Festival of Photography, Norway, Head On Photo Festival and Reportage Without A Cause at Australia’s renowned documentary photography festival, Reportage, Sydney. His advertising work has been recognised at the major festivals such as Cannes Lions and the John Caples Awards.
