part of a series on Change

About the speaker

A self-proclaimed “academic mutt,” Betsy Brunner has a BA in English literature, a dual MFA in painting and art history, and an MA and PhD in communication— all to examine their shared role and influence in social movements. As a scholar-activist, she was the organizer for the Beijing-SLC Connect project, which brought artists from Beijing, China to Salt Lake City, Utah to collaboratively explore the issue of air pollution, a challenge which the two cities share. She has also spent a substantial amount of time in China researching the country’s contemporary environmental movement and how it relates to art, images, and social media to trace the ways in which the people of China are deploying creative resistance to protect their environment.

Come join the conversation as Betsy brings her unique local/global perspective to discuss “Change"—what prompts it, what keeps us from it and how the ways we create and connect influence that process and affect the community around us. Don’t miss it!
