About the speaker

Attila F. Kovács and Zsuzsa Megyesi had founded a+z design studio in 2009. Their debut work, Gipsy Collection, which re-used and re-defined traditional pieces and motifs of Hungarian and Transsylvanian material culture, was a huge success. Since then their newer works can also be described as playful and human-focused design.

Attila studied architecture, but became a leading figure of the Hungarian interior and set design in the last three decades. His early work, a kindergarten in Kaposvár was presented in the Hungarian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 1992. His bar and restaurant designs determined the evolution of style and taste in the 2000’s Hungary. House of Terror Museum in Budapest and Emlékpont in Hódmezővásárhely are two of his most significant, symbolic works, in importance reaching far out of the borders. He is a recurring co-worker of Oscra-winning director István Szabó. In 2009 he worked on the set design for the movie Bel Ami, starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci.

Zsuzsa studied art history and aesthetics and started her carrier as an art curator. Living in Los Angeles her interest turned to interior design and styling. She worked for several feature and commercial films. After years of working for art and design magazines as design editor and interior stylist she became art director of STILUS magazine.
