About the speaker
Los Angeles native Ashley Burns is a yoga teacher, rest advocate, intuitive plant mama and gardener, ritualist, self-proclaimed “adventure aunty,” community support leader, dreamer, and most importantly a believer. Her family has roots in so-called Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, California, and Hawaii.
She has been leading yoga* (Sanskrit meaning “union”) in Phoenix since 2012, and since then has acquired almost 1,000 hours of yoga, meditation, and wellness training. Her teaching style focuses on slowing down and moving with the intention to remember and connect with the Self. Witnessing bodies, especially black bodies, at ease in her classes affirms her purpose as a community servant here to heal and be healed.
Co-founder of DiRTYOGA, a community wellness and arts organization, her work is centered on accessibility, inclusivity, and exploration. DiRTYOGA’s events break down barriers that prevent folks, including children, from experimenting with their wellness practices. Through yoga, Ashley dismantles the misunderstanding of her sensitivity as a weakness and grows to celebrate her deep intuition as a superpower.
Ashley received her doula certification from MODABA’s community training in September 2021. She is enthusiastic about integrating her experiences as an aunty, yoga + meditation guide, and caregiver to support the needs of her birthing clients and their families.
