Yennie Lam, Paul Livingstone, and Alma Cielo speak on creative rebirth through embers and fire.

Paul Livingstone, and his wife Alma Cielo showed up with open hearts and incredible generosity. Paul and Alma are long-time Altadena residents who were personally affected by the fires, and they spoke about how that experience became a catalyst for leaning even deeper into their art and their purpose. Our opening performer, Yennie Lam, brought her signature blend of electric violin and soul to the morning and elevated every moment she played.

About the speaker

Lifelong musician Paul Livingstone has traveled the world performing classical ragas and rhythms of South Asia. He is one of the few American disciples of the legendary Pt. Ravi Shankar and also learned intensively from Pt Rajeev Taranath and Amiya Dasgupta and has performed around India, Pakistan and Nepal, and through the US, Europe and Latin America. In addition to playing in the traditional context of raga music, he also brings these forms into contemporary world music as a sitarist, fretless guitarist, upright bass player and composer who has contributed to multiple Grammy Award winning records. Paul is also an educator, activist and community organizer through the Soul Force Project.
