About the speaker

Anna Grace FitzGerald is native of Raleigh and a life-long lover of plants. Growing up in NC gave her a deep love and respect for the great outdoors and after attending college at UNC-Chapel Hill, she spent a few years working at a local garden center. While it’s safe to say that the “seed” had been planted at a young age, this job allowed the plant-love to fully root and grow!

She completed her Masters of Landscape Architecture at NC State in 2019 and moved to Philadelphia, PA to work. She moved back home in late 2020 after pitching the idea of opening her own plant shop to her family. In early 2021, she started Copperline Plant Co in the backyard of her childhood home and by 2022, she had opened her first brick and mortar. In 2023, Copperline Plant Company relocated to one of the busiest street corners in Downtown Raleigh, where they remain today.

In the shop, Anna Grace and her team of 6 incredible humans help folks every day with repotting, diagnosing, triaging, selecting, and most importantly, growing the happiest houseplants in town!

Our global theme for November is Growth.

When we were kids, it happened fast. We outgrew clothes and shoes seemingly overnight. We constantly reached for things just out of our grasp. We made messes and art without worrying about what anyone would think.

As we shift into adulthood, growth gets harder to come by. Get good grades and a great job. Burn the midnight oil. Struggle against the odds. Then somewhere along the way, we get comfortable with the status quo. Sitting on the couch, watching and scrolling instead of trying and doing.

But creativity demands growth. Not the kind that can be measured with a ruler. It’s about taking stock of your character. Who’s ready to chase wild possibilities and meaningful progress? We must unlearn the need to be perfect and busy. Remember how to play and get our hands dirty again.

It takes curiosity and courage. Because growth doesn’t always feel good. It forces us to shed our old skin, to stumble, and start again. Sometimes, growth happens quietly, in between uncertainty and doubt, the moments when nothing seems to be changing. Until everything does.

This month’s theme was chosen by our Sacramento chapter chapter in California and illustrated by Amber Rankin.
