Abundance in a scarCITY Cities are sites of enigma showcasing abundance with strong binaries. The co-existence of extreme affluence and abject poverty; cities as spaces of employment with a plethora of the unemployed; the powerful and the dispossessed; excessive consumption by the privileged and lack of basic resources for the marginalised – too common and cliched to even elicit a comment. Cumulatively, we have cities that work for a powerful minority, with ‘development’ largely conceived for and by this minority; while it is the informal socio-spatial forms that are the dominant modes of urbanisation, for production of space. How does a city leverage this abundance to make itself liveable, inclusive and resilient?

Cumulatively, we have cities that work for a powerful minority, with ‘development’ largely conceived for and by this minority; while it is the informal socio-spatial forms that are the dominant modes of urbanisation, for production of space. How does a city leverage this abundance to make itself liveable, inclusive and resilient?
