Ama Koranteng-Kumi explains how nature as a driving force helps women to transform their daily lives.
About the speaker
Ama Koranteng-Kumi (1980) is an independent projectleader, publicist and founder of the women’s organization Creating Edges. She initiates, organizes and advice innovative projects in the city at the intersection of creativity, diversity and societal issues.
In 2014 she set up the project Bloei & Groei in a (disadvantaged) neighborhood in Amsterdam called ‘the Bijlmer’, with nature as a driving force in empowering and transforming the daily lives of women in this area. Bloei & Groei creates small-scale food and healing spaces where beside growing their own food, women can acquire skills and knowledge on sustainable living and experience self-care.
Ama Koranteng-Kumi is also a faculty member at The School of Life in Antwerp where she facilitates classes on how to 'How to realize your potential’ and 'How to be resilient’. Her publications appeared among others in NRC Next, De Morgen, One World and Charlie Magazine.
In 2016, she completed a master’s degree in Gender Studies at the University of Utrecht with a study on active citizenship and informal support networks amongst women in the district Amsterdam Southeast. She lives alternately in Amsterdam and Antwerp. In 2016 Ama Koranteng-Kumi was nominated by Dutch women’s magazine for a VIVA400 award in the creative category.
Ama will share with us the holistic approach of Bloei & Groei, which goes beyond nature as a landscape, and interlinks the natural environment with women’s empowerment, personal wellbeing, and community resilience.
