About the speaker
About Abhinandan: Abhinandan is co-founder and CEO of media critique, news and current affairs website Newslaundry. He also co-founded production house Small Screen along with Prashant Sareen. Before founding Newslaundry, he worked as a producer, director and writer in various television and film projects including award-winning food and travel show, Highway on my Plate, which he co-produced and directed; and news-satire show Gustaakhi Maaf. He is also a co-founder and trustee in Delhi-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) PCRF. He was the executive producer for Chase, a documentary series by ScoopWhoop. He regularly delivers lectures and hosts panel discussions on journalism, RTI, and the importance and independence of media and has delivered talks at several Indian colleges including NIT Karnataka-Surathkal, St. Xavier’s College, Lady Shri Ram College and IIM Lucknow Noida Campus. He also delivered a TEDx talk about ‘journalism of independence’ at TEDxJaiHindCollege in 2015.
About Ankon : Ankon Mitra is an architect, landscape designer and Origami artist. He has a keen interest in the geometry and mathematics of trees, flowers, hills and coastlines. A Gold-Medallist from the School of Planning and Architecture (S.P.A), New Delhi, he is Design Director (Landscape), at Hexagramm Design Pvt. Ltd., the only studio in India that applies the Origami technique to all scales of projects from Airport Landscapes to Architecture, to indoor Lighting, and even crockery and hand-held products. He is deeply interested in Tesselating Geometries, folding processes in nature, and Origami in paper, plastics and metal. He has a post-graduate degree in parametric design, biomimicry and advance geometries from The Bartlett, University College London and has taught in London, Singapore and at IITs, NIDs, SPAs and NIFTs in India. His Art is currently represented by the Apparao Galleries in South India and Asia-Pacific, Art Centrix Space in rest of India, and the Paper Artist Collective in Europe and the U.K. He has spoken at TEDx in Delhi in 2015 illustrating how the Universe is made and unmade from Folding and published two books and scores of journal articles on Architecture, Origami Art, New Technologies and the Future of the Built Environment. He is currently working on an Encyclopaedia of Technical Origami for Architects, Designers and Engineers, to be published by Thames and Hudson in 2018.
