Park Visitor Welcome Kits

State Park Visitors Guides, Trail Guides and Interpretive Panels

Distributed at park entrance gates by park officials in 15 states and multiple regions, free welcome kits offer maps and information about the history, features and locations of State Parks, Natural Areas and Historic Sites. A state might have five versions due to the distance covered or the density of parks and sites in that area. Across the country, tight government budgets leave little money for park services; a privatized group created in-park marketing for the active lifestyle audience. Maps were created for kiosks at point-of-play areas, interpretive panels and takeaway trail guides. The extensive project took the better part of a year. A small in-house team worked with advertisers, managed photography, and assigned content. Managing all kits (in various stages of production) required structured production timelines and a systematic review process. Color presentations determined design elements, palettes, and graphic styles. Typography studies examined hierarchy, the incorporation of icon glyphs and the styling of paragraphs, captions, map elements and park labeling.
