“The climate question is really an efficiency question.”
“In order for people to stay motivated about a goal, they need to be big, because that’s what really motivates people - something bigger than themselves.”
“It’s really hard to get people to do new things, even if it’s after agreeing that everyone was going to do these things.”
“Working with others requires time & energy alignment”
“When you actually need to implement and execute certain ideas - in some cases - being siloed, being alone, getting in your zone and executing on your specific tasks is critical.”
“How can we work together to solve the challenges like the effects of climate change? And how do we not - pardon my French - f*ck it up, because it’s too important?”
“Climate Change is something that is happening, that’s becoming more accepted, and what’s also becoming accepted is that together we can do something about it.”
“Some problems are just too big for one approach or one solution to ever even have a hope of having an impact.”
“Most things that are really important to solve, require the power of many people.”
There's a lot of compromise in terms of designing but it's doing exactly what it needs to do.
Not everything works out. You are always going to run into this kinds of oops moment where something is kind of majorly falling apart.
You have to know how to let go and that's really, really hard for creative people.
About compromise is seeing your artistic vision through another artistic lens is often when you're a creative person whether that's music or writing or anything, seeing your ideas interpreted by somebody else... it's hard to let go.
The harder thing to do is pick up the phone and call but it turns out that was the best thing to do.
Within a project talking to people- just open up and talk to them. There is no stupid question.
Be polite but don't wait until there's an emergency to bring something.
Communication is probably the most important aspect of collaboration.
Good thing about collaboration, you really cut down on the amount of stuff you have to do personally.
What does it mean to listen from the heart? It means, someone tells a story and you're not immediately comparing yourself to that story.
"Radical collaboration... I want people who can be really objective to my point of view. I want somebody who can challenge me and push me."
The thing I love most about Vine is what you can do with nothing.
Time is still magic to people.
Reach out. Reach through the screen, start to work with other people.
L'impro, ça a changé ma vie. Complètement.
To cross certain boundaries is to die and be reborn as another person. Trust bravely in love. Be down, but not out.
One of the hardest things in the creative process actually is saying no and you have to say no in order to make progress.
It's okay to dig your heels in a little bit and fight for what's right, as long as you're willing to be wrong when you're wrong.
Individually, in every moment that you can, be the source of somebody else’s happiness.
Celebrate other people's successes. It's good for your heart, it's good for your soul and it promotes general goodness.
It's important to think about who, and the kinds of people—whether it's their art or their personality—what would complement each other so it's a harmonious environment.
Avoid competition and conflict between businesses. Nurture each other and take care of each other. Respect what others do and what their strengths are.
I know it doesn’t look nice when there is a fire extinguisher on the wall where you want to put a piece of art but actually these are the boundaries.
It’s so special to be part of something where you just get the best out of people.
We’re run by our audience and that’s probably why it’s successful.
Make it happen together!
The road to brilliance is paved with terrible ideas.
Without a well defined problem, it’s hard to know wether you’ve succeeded or failed.
Creating a context where loving your work is possible is a really important ingredient to collaboration.
Collaborations take us into areas we would never go on our own. They teach us a lot about ourselves and other people.
What is 'exposure?' It's something you die of in the wilderness.
I love collaboration. I love working with people that are smarter than me. I love with working and problem solving with passionate minds.
It can be really scary to make something and put it out there.
When you do collaborate, show recognition and gratitude.
Be the person you want to work with.
Sometimes it matters more what you say "no" to than what you say "yes" to.
It's important to envision the end goal. You can't help others meet their goals unless you have yours clearly defined first.
Clearly, I'm not a shy person but, when it comes to networking, honestly I could like lay in bed and agonize over it. I don't want to do it. It feels really icky to me. But I think that's because maybe we should be thinking of it more as collaboration. Going into these experiences thinking "how can we work together?" "How can we make the whole better for both of us?" It just has a different connotation.
Mutual respect. No secrets. Don’t steal other people’s shit.
What would you learn from each other if you had a chance to work together? What would you share with everyone in this room if you knew you could trust them? What if you did it anyway?
A sketch is like a question mark: "What do you think?" It almost doesn't matter what they think; it matters that you asked.
