Virtual

About the speaker

Business as a Creative Act
Presented by Mariko Gordon, CFA, CFP®.

Business as a Creative Act is a virtual workshop series covering areas of financial management for creatives. The series began with a larger introductory workshop, followed by a more intimate, detailed five-part online workshop series.

Class 2: Anatomy of Financial Statements and How They Map to Your Business Ecosystem.

This workshop will explain the anatomy of financial statements — what are the components? What do they mean? How do they interact? And how they apply to your business and personal finances. You’ll learn what the “canaries in the coal mine” of your financials are to stay out of trouble and manage growth well. You’ll better understand the impacts of your business decisions on your wallet. No finance-bro jargon will be deployed, guaranteed.

Additional details

Business and art are not mortal enemies. Business is performance art. Like art, business is midwifing potential into reality.

Business may not be the world-building of science fiction and fantasy, but starting a business is building a mini world within our existing world.

It’s creating a dynamic, living complex ecosystem.

But the way business is traditionally taught and talked about makes it seem like the mortal enemy of creativity. There’s a lot that is repulsive about feral capitalism that is based on an extractive, exploitative, zero-sum model.

That’s not what we’re talking about here.

We’re talking about the beauty in stewarding an ecosystem of clients and buyers, vendors and workers, that’s fair, generative, and sustainable for all.

Mariko Gordon, CFA, CFP® will be leading this free and open-to-the-public series that shows you how to integrate business into your creative practice in a way that is scaffolding, not encaging.

-You’ll get an introduction to developing financial intimacy with your creative practice.

-How to understand the story its numbers are telling you.

-How to monitor its vital signs.

-How to grow sustainably.

-How to weave your creative self into the fabric of your business.

-How to create the ecosystem that supports, rather than crushes, your creative practice.

If you’re someone:

-who’s afraid of ruining your creative practice with business

-who’s struggling with figuring how to make your creative practice profitable

-who wants to be more creative in the running of their business

Then this workshop series is for you.
