Jean Blackwell Font

I’m a visual artist and experienced digital marketing pro. As an advocate for visual artists, I assist in bringing art and words from the real world into the digital realm. I am committed to building connection, creativity, and community through offering affordable studio space to artists, hosting art talks and workshops online and IRL, and creating opportunities for creative play.

About this FieldTrip

Join Jean Blackwell Font from your “virtual studio” for an hour of creative play. More than an art class, this is an hour to connect to your own creativity. No rules, no judgment - just creative play! This event offers time to sit quietly, work new parts of your brain, and see things in a different way with people from across the globe.

It all begins with a prompt, a single word to get the ideas flowing. We share ideas on how to start making something, tips on artists to look at for inspiration, other online workshops we’ve enjoyed, and we talk about the weather. Or we just work quietly, enjoying the sounds of tearing paper and quiet contemplation. Together we share an hour of collage making.

Sit with friends, or make some new ones.

All you really need is a pair of scissors, some images or paper bits, and glue, paste, or even tape. Be as basic or as fancy as you want to be. Get your materials together and let’s get ready to share a creative hour together!

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ We begin with a prompt, a word to use as a springboard to get the ideas and materials moving.

✔️ Cameras are encouraged to be on, to create community and social interaction.

✔️ Participants can connect via Chat to ask questions about techniques and materials throughout the session.

✔️ With about 15 minutes left, we like to do a “Show and Tell” to share what you’ve created during the session.

🎒What To Know Before Hand

✔️ Materials are only as limited as your imagination - but a good place to start is paper, glue/paste, and scissors.

Possible supplies: Magazines, colored paper, paint or ink. food coloring, old greeting cards, newspaper, fabric, ribbons

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
