About the speaker

Living in alignment with your values is harder than it sounds, according to Lizzie Williams. But it’s also an energizing and fulfilling pursuit.

Lizzie Williams is a GR local (or, as she refers to herself, a “townie”) who has spent her career building community and connection through communications and marketing. After getting her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University (Go Green!), she worked in the arts, splitting her 9-to-5’s between the East Lansing Art Festival and Lafontsee Galleries.

In 2010, she landed a job that would prove to be transformational with the Grand Rapids Chamber’s leadership development team. There, she was introduced to “systems thinking” and was inspired to dig deeper into the interrelated impact of seemingly small decisions. The exposure to bold leaders who were challenging the status quo in pursuit of a more just society was inspiring to Lizzie.

In 2012, she took on a new challenge and joined a growing tech firm on GR’s westside, OST. She has worn various hats over her decade-long career at OST (yes, it is possible for a millennial to work somewhere for a decade!) but they have all been rooted in ensuring OST’s culture of honoring their employees remains their number one pursuit. Lizzie’s primary role is leading employee communications for the firm, but she also leads their philanthropy and sustainability efforts.

Her commitment to the community, both professionally and personally, has also opened up opportunities for her to serve on various nonprofit boards over the years, including the Saint Mary’s Foundation, Habitat Kent, and ATHENA Grand Rapids.

On a personal front, Lizzie lives in the Creston neighborhood with her husband, Steve Faber, their daughter, Bettie, and her stepsons, Levi and Eliot. She loves spending time with her fam and friends, going on unique adventures, flexing her creative muscles, and soaking up the good vibes of all four seasons.
