" End of year 2022, a sobering moment
The organizers of CM in Helsinki insisted on a CV so here it goes. I try to keep it short as my presentation really is not about me. Quite the opposite.
My name is Kimmo Kari Juhani Syväri (Born January 1978). I am a Helsinki based entrepeneur. My background is in commercial photography. I have been involved in building finnish brands such as Makia Clothing and Kyrö Distillery Company.
I like to use these two brands as examples because with them I was fortunate enough to be along for the ride from zero to one. The magical moment when the brand turns from nothing to something. I also like them because neither is a tech company. Their achievements are not based on some technical miracle but rather the magnetism of the story.
As a kid I loved building legos… how original!
As an adult I wanted to build something. I wasn’t math savy so I gravitated towards the unmeasurable. The artistic. It got a positive response so I decided to run with it.
Now after building and running production companies for 15 years it has come time for me to take stock.
What did I actually build? What was the net impact of my actions? Did I learn anything? What would I do differently?
We had a good run. We did cool things (imo), had fun and moved the needle on some paragadigmas of whats possible in our tiny market. We also did alot of shit, managed the company poorly, pissed people off, made financial mistakes, worked with and for the wrong people and so on. The usual.
In my presentation on Truth I want to honestly reflect back on my own choices as an entrepeneur and try to outline the rulebook on how I want to lead the future me to do better. How we work, who we work for and what we do for them.
