About the speaker

Traci Wilson-Kleekamp has been a neighborhood and community activist for over 20 years, advocating for community-oriented policing, public parks, transparent,
responsive local government, and sustainable urban planning. She is the ex-president of Race Matters, Friends (RMF), which is a non-profit organization focused on social justice advocacy, specifically issues of equity and inclusion. Wilson-Kleekamp remains active as ex-officio president.

She is an avid genealogist, critical family historian and family history research consultant who helps family historians discover more about their African-American heritage. She is currently

Wilson-Kleekamp holds a Master’s in Social Studies Education (M.Ed) and is presently a 5th year doctoral student at the MU College of Education and Human Development. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Public Relations from California State University, Long Beach. She wrote a 2019 blog
which is featured on Christine Sleeter’s website entitled: Esoteric Clues: It’s no secret that slave-owners fathered children with their slaves. More recently Wilson-Kleekamp was featured on KOMU for Black History Month in a story about James T. Scott, who was lynched in Columbia, Missouri in 1923. Wilson-Kleekamp addressed the narrative violence that surrounds the manner in which the story of Scott is told.
