There’s hope in innovation by design

About the speaker

Hi, I’m Kalle, a service and digital product designer with 25 years of experience. I’m currently a UX Design Manager at Google in Munich.

Before Google, I spent 10 years at frog design, where I led teams of strategists, designers, researchers, and developers. Together we helped brands like Porsche, IKEA, Volkswagen, BMW, Siemens, Allianz, and Jio to transform how they work, and bring novel products and services to market.

I was also a freelancer for 10 years, a visiting professor at the HFG Schwäbisch Gmünd, Macromedia University, and the Design School Kolding. And, many years ago, the very first host of Creative Mornings in Munich.

In times like these - when the world moves at breakneck speed and chaos seems normal - creativity, and creatives, matter more than ever. Because at its core, innovation is creative disruption, driven by design and propelled by hope.

My journey as a designer started about 25 years ago. Throughout my career I’ve been driven by the idea and ambition to advance the human experience through design. To create things that are useful, usable, fulfilling, and net-positive for our world. To humanize technology.

I’ve worked on many innovation projects across industries. Some successful, many less so, and some felt pointless when evaluated in the bigger scheme of things. Now creativity itself is being disrupted by AI, and even being a creative can seem pointless sometimes. Perhaps you know the feeling.

I’ve always found energy and hope in the creative process - in learning something new about the world, and finding that gold nugget of true insight that brings people together and propels organizations forward. That’s what enables successful innovation.

In my talk, I’ll take you on a journey through the creative and innovation process to find hope in innovation by design, and for creatives in the age of AI. I hope you’ll walk away energized, with new insight - and maybe even a gold nugget of your own.
