About this FieldTrip

Discover the exciting world of guerrilla gardening and urban farming on a guided walk by one of our experts through the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The Subversive Gardener offers seasonal field trips that last approximately 1 hour and covers about 1.5 miles of walking distance. Participants meet in a central location which is easily accessible by public transit or automobile.

The walk not only focuses on existing gardens, but also educates and invites participants to engage in their own guerrilla gardening along the walk with the Seed Pills provided.

About your Host: Vanessa Harden has a Masters degree with a focused on developing tools for future gardening scenarios in a world affected by climate change. She has given numerous talks and workshops on the topic namely TEDx London, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tate Modern. Her organization, The Subversive Gardener, is currently working with a number of groups such as primary schools, senior care housing and community gardens providing support, education and practical workshops.

Maia Bromley-Dulfano has a Masters degree in Environmental Conservation Education and has worked as an educator in urban gardens for over seven years. She develops and teaches garden based programs that focus on the impact that environmental and industrial history has had on our communities.
